TENT Rotterdam is regarded as the organisation where collaboration between various visual artists is established in Rotterdam. The organisation for art and culture at Witte de Withstraat 50 is formed by the Exhibitions Department of the Rotterdam Centre for the Visual Arts. TENT organises various activities for this target group, but certainly also for other interested parties. Both local and non-local artists can take part in these projects. The organisation also stimulates consultation between the various participants and acts as a connecting factor in this. Since the doors opened in 1999, many an exhibition has been organised. The show ‘Who do you think you are’ stimulated people to think about why someone is the way he or she is so that people understand each other better.
TENT Rotterdam
What makes Rotterdam unique is the mix of cultures, which also serves as a stimulus and basis for new initiatives. In addition to exhibitions and events, TENT also organises various educational projects. The organisation stimulates the participation of local partners through a unique programme. In this programme, you see the ever-changing urban culture of Rotterdam. Various projects, including the Rotterdam Summer Carnival, offer interested parties new insights. One example is ‘Carnival Carnivalesque’ (Trade), for the street parade of the Rotterdam Summer Carnival in 2015. This plan was part of the manifestation ‘On The Other Side Of Reality’.
Nowadays, TENT streams also live sessions. In the session, together with the Wiaspora project, the themes connection, hope and the ability to occupy space were central. This last theme is in line with the current COVID situation, where among other things, the positions people have and what people can do for each other. The concepts of hope and connection raise the question of ‘how can we make this a reality’. TENT and the Wiaspora Project further draw attention via online channels to recording the period of the current Corona crisis.
Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art
TENT shares the building with the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art. Tickets are always combi-tickets so that you can view both museums. The Witte de With center has decided to change its name, and until that point, they remain nameless. Fortunately, they will continue to organize beautiful things.
