Markthal

Markthal

The Markthal in Rotterdam has been open since 2014. This building added another beautiful architectural highlight to the coolest city in the Netherlands. It is a modern indoor market where you can buy fresh products and dishes and browse around. The Dutch artist Arno Coenen has turned the inside into a real work of art. You can’t miss this beautiful piece of art, and I’m sure you will like it. On the side, you can see the windows of the apartments of the Markthal.

Of course, it’s not wise to enter The Markthal when you’re hungry. It’s just like the supermarket. You buy more than you plan to. But of course, it is also possible that you only get hungry from all the goodies you see and smell. Luckily there are a lot of possibilities to eat and drink at that moment. Whether you are vegan, eat fish or preferably meat, there is something for everyone.

For residents, there are two supermarkets in the building. Besides a Dutch supermarket AH they can shop in an Asian supermarket. When you visit the Markthal by car, you can park under the Markthal in the parking garage. A smart thing to do is to reserve an online parking ticket. This ticket will save you a lot of money, and you can leave it there while seeing more of Rotterdam.

Markthal Rotterdam area

There is more to see near The Markthal. One hundred metres away is the Laurenskerk, the only remaining building from the Middle Ages in Rotterdam. The yellow cube houses always stand out. Not everyone has seen the inside yet. There is a cube house museum which is open every day from 10:00 to 18:00. Underneath the Cube Houses is the Old Harbour where you can enjoy a terrace. You can also visit one of the museums. The Marine Museum and the Maritime Museum are a five-minute walk away.

If you want to stroll by some lovely shops, you can go to the Nieuwe Markt. After this street, when you walk a little further, there is the Meent. Walk down the Meent, and you have the Coolsingel. Here you can cross the road to the Lijnbaan or turn left to the Koopgoot. When you are don strolling, we advise having a drink and snack somewhere in one of the many restaurants and bars in Rotterdam.

Next to Markthal

Would you like to take a closer look at Markthal’s building? You can do that from the Ferris wheel next to the Market Hall. Skyview Rotterdam is a closed luxurious air-conditioned gondola. With six people per gondola, you have a beautiful view of the city.

Every Tuesday and Saturday there is a market in Rotterdam. The market takes place in front of the Markthal on the Binnenrotte. With sometimes more than 300 stalls, this is the largest market in the Netherlands. On Tuesday the market is open from 08:00 to 17:30 and on Saturday from 08:00 to 17:00.
