Rotterdam beach at the North Sea

District Hoek Van Holland

This district, with just over 10,000 inhabitants, is located on the North Sea. Hoek van Holland is the furthest away from the centre of Rotterdam, about 25 kilometres. Since December 2019 there is a metro from Rotterdam to Hoek van Holland, which takes about 35 minutes.

Hoek van Holland has been part of Rotterdam since 1914. Because it is by the sea and has a beach of more than three kilometres, they also name it Rotterdam Beach. There are two parks, the Nieuwlandsepark and Hoekse Bosjes. This district of Rotterdam looks like a small village in the polder.

The Oranjeplassen is a beautiful nature reserve in the southern part of the Hoek of Holland. A lovely area for walking or cycling. Because there are many birds in this area, bringing your binoculars can be a good idea.

Rotterdam Beach

There are many opportunities for recreation and accommodation. There is Resort Hoek van Holland with 900-holiday homes. On the same location, you have family campsite Hoek van Holland. There are 200 permanent camping pitches and another 100 free camping pitches. Both sites are situated next to the beach. 

If you want to spend the night on the beach, you have holiday park Beach Villas Hoek van Holland. There are 74 beach houses where you can stay overnight with up to six people. Furthermore, there are four regular hotels in the district where you can stay for a holiday or spend the night.

For water sports enthusiasts, there are many possibilities in Hoek van Holland. A large part of the beach is for people who want to enjoy the sun. On this part of the beach, there are also several Beachclub restaurants where you can have a drink or have something to eat.

On a separate part of the beach, people can surf. If you would like to learn how to surf, that is also possible. There are also lessons for Bodyboarding and Stand up Paddle. And if you don’t want to go into the water, you can even sandboard.

For the Kitesurfers, there is also a small part of the beach available. Both beginners and advanced can go here.

For the safety of beach guests there are also lifeguards during the summer season.

Public transportation

Between 05:30 AM and 00:30 AM, there are at least two times an hour a subway over line C to Maassluis and on to Rotterdam centre.
